Let’s do a big shout out to the volunteers that maintain the 7 km of walking trails at Petrie. ( hopefully there won’t be a lot of work after the flooding). They cut, shovel, trim, saw and monitor the trails to ensure we have safe, enjoyable conditions to enjoy our little bit of wilderness.

The Friends of Petrie Island relies on volunteers to work behind the scenes to plan, organize, connect with partners, run the website and social media. Inspired by uber volunteer, Al Tweddle, who led the organization until his passing in 2023, a small core of passionate people have become champions for nature and for access to high quality greenspace, our small wilderness, for residents and visitors to Ottawa’s east end.
Thank you to our team of leaders.
Current areas where we could use assistance are grant writing, social media, and volunteer coordination. Express interest by messaging us or email us at inquiries@petrieisland.org
