Petrie Junior Naturalist Program

The Friends of Petrie Island and SPIRIT would like to invite children aged 2-6 to attend the Petrie Island Junior Naturalist program. Children accompanied by an adult will spend a fun hour and a half becoming Junior Naturalists by participating in various hands-on activities; hikes, crafts, games, and songs. There is a fee of only 2$ per participant. Call 613-295-7275 to register your child today! Don’t forget that spaces are limited for all of these programs so please contact us to secure a space for you and your child (children).  We’re looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Program for 2009

June 26th - 10-11:30      “Fledging Frenzy”

Spring is the season for nesting and nurturing but come summer it is time for the baby birds to take flight and set out on their own adventures! There is a wide selection of birds to be seen here on Petrie Island. Come join us in learning about our beaked friends and the many variations of nesting rituals, styles and eggs.

July 17th 10-11:30
      “Flowers and Pollinators”

Come discover Petrie Island’s wide array of colourful flowers and learn about their pollinating friends! Join us on a hunt to identify some of the most beautiful flora that can be found on the island.

July 31st- 10-11:30
     “Water World”

Just because you’ve never seen them doesn’t mean they don’t exist! We often forget that many of the insects that are found fluttering around the island began their lives as little swimmers found in the wetlands. Critter dipping is an all time favourite activity and we invite you to come sweep the waterbeds of Petrie Island and discover the many different insects that call them home. Don’t forget your rubber boots but the nets and creepy crawlers are provided!
